Fantasy Baseball Picks: Top DraftKings MLB DFS Lineup Strategy for Brewers vs. Dodgers Showdown October 2nd

This week’s Showdown competition Saturday night DraftKings is the second match in a National League series between a pair of playoff teams, Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers. While the Dodgers are in the lead for the top NL Wild Card spot and are getting ready to probably host the Wild Card game, the Brewers have wrapped up NL Central and are also adding up to their things after the season. Milwaukee have slipped a bit lately, going 4-8 over the last 12 games while the Dodgers have gone 9-8 over the last 17 and remain mathematically in the hunt for the division, and have followed the Giants with two games with two games again. The Dodgers kept the slim division’s hopes alive by taking the first game of the series, 8-6, on Friday despite finishing four races early. Trea Turner ($ 15,300 CP; $ 10,200) homered twice, including a grand slam, when Los Angeles gathered after Clayton Kershaw had to leave early with an injury.

The expected pitching match is between a couple of outstanding starting pitchers who want to do one last tune before the playoffs that Corbin Burnes ($ 15,600 CP; $ 10,400) touch Julio Urias ($ 15,000; $ 10,000). Urías has a chance to get his 20th victory in this excursion and has put together a very solid 3.01 ERA, 3.16 FIP and 9.43 K / 9 on his 31 starts. Burnes have also been impressive with a 12.55 K / 9 rate to go with their 11-4 record, 2.29 ERA and 1.55 FIP. It should be a well-matched match, and races can be difficult to get hold of. Due to the strong starting line-up, DraftKings Sportsbook has put over / under to just 7.0 races and made his hometown Dodgers -145 favorites on the money line.

Captain’s Picks

Corbin Burnes ($ 15,600 CP) – Although he has not received as much running support (and therefore wins) as Urías, Burnes has been extremely effective this season. He had 18 quality starts on 27 outings and has piled up 230 strikeouts in 165 innings, including at least nine strikeouts in four of the last five starts. He is 9-0 over his last 19 starts with a modest 2.28 DRA. His knockout potential gives him an extremely high ceiling, and he has reached over 30 DKFP three times in the last five excursions. Another reason I like Burnes is that he usually works deep into games and goes at least six full innings in eight of the last nine starts. He also has a relatively low risk, since his strikes can help even an “off” day to produce solid fantasy results.

While the Dodgers series is well equipped with power, they ranked only 15th in the Majors in races scored in September. As a general rule, they do not knock out tons, but I think this will be a case where good pitching gets the best of good shots and Burnes puts together another strong show.

Lorenzo Cain ($ 8,700 CP) – With two strong SPs like this, it’s definitely a consideration to stack both as flex games. If that’s the strategy you go with, you need an affordable hitter as captain, and Cain is a cheap option that still provides a lot of upside. He has often been left out of the OF mix this season in Milwaukee, but he is ending the season strongly. Since the beginning of September, he is 19-for-58 (.328) with two home runs, a .172 ISO and a .393 wOBA. He’s had three multi-hit games the last four starts, so provided he’s in line, he can be a great way to get some production from your captain, while giving you the pay flexibility to stack the SPs.

Value plays

AJ Pollock ($ 7600) – When the Dodgers are in a showdown, it can be a little difficult to find value games since the top of their selection is so stacked with expensive stars. However, if you need a value bat from Dodgers’ order, Pollock is a great target since he’s been hot lately and costs under $ 8K. In the last six starts, Pollock has beaten four home runs, including a two-homer performance earlier this week that resulted in 30 DKFPs. In his 114 games this season, he has 20 home runs, a .238 ISO and a .360 wOBA. It would be a new career high in wOBA since he has continuously made good contact this season, even though the ISO has fallen a bit since last year. Pollock is often underestimated, which makes him a good target in this pay area.

Manny Piña ($ 6400) – With another left on the ground for the Dodgers, Piña will likely get the call behind the plate later Omar Narváez ($ 8000) has struggled. Piña has beaten four home runs in the last 10 games, giving him 13 homers and a .257 ISO a year. His average is overall low, but slightly better against leftists, which he has a robust .374 wOBA against this season. If he gets the start behind the plate, he’s a great way to save and still get a lot of upside.

Christian Yelich ($ 7000) – It has not been a great season for Yelich and his average, ISO and wRC + have all dropped significantly. Against left-handed throws, he has been even worse, hitting just .194 with just two home runs, a .136 ISO and .279 wOBA. He showed some signs of breaking out of the downturn in August, but has fallen back since September 1, hitting .213 with just one home run. Yelich still has power potential and exciting upside, but playing him against a left is no longer a good idea since most of what you pay for is name recognition.

The result

Since neither team has much to gain or lose when it comes to playoff positioning at this point, it’s hard to know for sure that both will be “all in” to win this match. Although the aggression is uncertain, there is plenty of talent to consider. Hopefully both star throwers bring their “A” games and we get a fantastic preview in the playoffs. Burnes has been even better than Uría for much of the season, and I do not see the Dodgers pushing Urias to go deep into the game while Burnes usually do. In the end, I think the Brewers will get enough runs too late, probably by the Dodgers’ overworked bullpen, to get a win for Burnes and keep Urías from victory No. 20.

Conclusion: Brygger 4, Dodgers 1
