Finally, the Baylor baseball team must leave home again. For now, they are enjoying their longer stay.
Cade Currington, Andy Thomas and Jared McKenzie pulverized home runs as Baylor won their ninth straight game, beating UT-San Antonio, 10-8, on Tuesday at Baylor Ballpark. All nine wins from the Bears (11-4) have come on their own field, as they are in the middle of a home with 13 games.
Baylor built a 10-5 lead through five innings on their way to what appeared to be an escape. But the Roadrunners (5-7) made things interesting, scoring once in the sixth and twice in the eighth to draw within 10-8. Ian Bailey’s two-run blast of Logan Freeman put UTSA on the brink of a comeback.
But Baylor’s bulls closed the door afterwards. Luke Boyd came in for Freeman with an out on eighth and went a couple of strokes before he finally got out of the inning. Then Boyd went 1-2-3 in the ninth for his third save of the season. Jacob Ashkinos (2-0) took the victory to the Bears, who are back in action on Wednesday, and host Prairie View A&M.
