Baseball to Face LeTourneau in Home Doubleheader on Friday

Shreveport- The Centenary baseball team will aim to continue their warm start to the season, as the men welcome LeTourneau YellowJackets to the city on Friday for a non-conference double header with games set at 15 and 18 at Shehee Stadium.

The Gents (9-2) remained unbeaten at home this season after completing a three-game weekend sweep in non-conference games over the Dubuque University Spartans last Saturday with a 4-0 shutout victory. Centenary, who won 13-6 on Thursday night and 5-1 on Friday, have had their best start to a season since the start 8-3 in 2017.

The men are now 8-1 in the last nine home games that go back to last season, and Maroon and White have won 18 of their last 24 games in total back to the start of last season. Centenary, who have scored 10 or more races in a game four times this season, have outscored opponents at home 34-12 through five games so far this season. The men own an impressive .321 total team stroke average, a .412 percent at base and a .432 slugging percentage.

The men’s pitching staff has been equally sensational throughout the season’s first 11 games, and has put out a 2.51-team ERA, which ranks first in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Lord also ranks second defensively in the conference (.972 field percent) and their team average is the fourth best in the league. Centenary have allowed two races or less five times this season with a couple of shutouts.

Century sophomore Parker Primeaux (Lake Charles, La.) was named SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week on Monday for his impressive weekend against Dubuque. The second-hand right-hander appeared in all three games last weekend, throwing 5.2 pointless rounds and allowing just two hits with four strikes and did not go batter while picking up saves in two of his three plays. Primeaux (1-1, 2.21 ERA) has been one of the anchors of the pitch staff as he has thrown 20.1 innings and struck out 16 while going just five on eight appearances in total. He also has the team’s best three saves and is sixth in SCAC in the ERA.

Senior prisoner Tyler Erickson (Houston, Texas) leads the men with a stroke average of 0.415 and is the conference leader in hits with 17. Erickson has 11 RBI (second on the team) and six points scored, and has only knocked out twice in 41 at-bats this season. He owns a .510 percent of the base and slugs on a .463 clip. Senior right player Cody Crowder (Shepherd, Texas) gets a great new start to a season, as he is number two on the team with an average stroke play of .385 and leads the men in both OBP (.538) and slugging (.718).

Crowder, who recorded his 200th career hit last Friday, is number two on the team with 15 hits and leads the men with 15 points scored. He has a team best five doubles, a triple, two homers and seven RBI.

Senior Preston Ludwick (Pflugerville, Texas) has been superb both on the plate and on the mound for the men this season. He hits an impressive .357, third on team, with a .471 OBP and swallows .405. He has 15 hits, 10 RBIs, 11 points scored and a couple of doubles. Ludwick was named SCAC Baseball Hitter of the Week on Feb. 15 when he hit. 429 in total in a couple of Centenary victories, went 3-7 with four RBIs, one race scored and a couple of rounds.

Ludwick moved to 3-0 this season with a shutout win over the Spartans last Saturday and now owns a team-low 1.45 ERA as he has allowed just three races and nine hits in 18.2 IP this season with seven trips and 15K and complete game suspension earlier in the season against Huntingdon on the road February. 27.

Several other members of the centenary have also been solid early in the season. Senior Conner Pocket (Lutcher, La.) Is 1-0 with a period of 2.50 and has started two games, senior Connor kos (Lake Charles, La.) Is 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA and senior southpaw Connor Lee (Sugarland, Texas) is 2-1 with a 4.94 ERA and a team-high five starter. He was named SCAC Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 15 after striking out in both men’s games in the opening week of the season last month, won a pair of non-conference victories over Louisiana College (6-1) and ETBU (7-4), and in seven innings he did not allow a earned race with five strikes and no trips,

Junior Ben’s brother (Beckville, Texas) was glowing on the plate all last weekend for the men as he went 4-12 for the weekend with six RBIs and one race scored. He put out a couple of multi-hit games and had at least one RBI in every game in the series. He hits .273 for the season with an OBP of .340 and slugs .364. He has 13 RBIs, 12 total hits, five points, a double and a homer. Bridges have recorded four multi-hit games so far this season, including a four-hit effort against ETBU in February. 12. Junior midfielder Gary hewitt (Cedar Park, Texas), senior left fieldman Luke Royle (Dodge City, Kan.), And junior shortstop Brady robinson (Jacksonville, Texas) has also got a solid start on the plate. The three have combined for 35 hits, 20 points, 16 RBI and 10 doubles.

Centenary meet LeTourneau again on Saturday in Longview, Texas for a double top with matches scheduled for 6 p.m. 13 and 15.30. The men will then open SCAC games next weekend at Austin College in Sherman, Texas. The three-game series begins on Friday the 19th. March at 19 with a double top on Saturday the 20th.th at 13 and 16
