ARLINGTON, Texas The Oklahoma baseball team fell to Stephen F. Austin 9-5 Tuesday night at Globe Life Field.
Sooners (1-2) led 5-3 after five innings by virtue of a three-run home run by the designated hitter Jimmy thugs and a solo homer by other baseman Conor McKenna. The Lumberjacks (1-0) made use of four innings and two errors, scoring four unearned runs in a six-run sixth inning to advance 9-5.
Crooks launched his first home run as a Sooner deep in the right field stands to give OU a 4-3 lead in the fourth inning. Catcher Justin mitchell led by the frame with a double and scored at a wild pitch after trips to the shortstop Brandon Zaragoza and midfielder Tanner Tredaway, sets up Crooks’ homer. McKenna beat his second home run in as many days with his solo explosion in the fifth round to make it 5-3.
SFA scored a race in the third round and took a 3-0 lead in the fourth on a solo home run by first baseman Jordan Monacy and left fielder Clayton Loranger, before the six-run sixth round. Aaron Brooks (0-1) took the loss in relief while Benny Emmons (1-0) earned the victory in relief.
The Sooners threatened to score in each of the first two innings and again on the eighth with two runners at base and two outs, but failed to push a race over. Crooks, who also doubled in the first half, went 2 for 3 with the three RBIs and Zaragoza ended the match 2 for 3 with a couple of singles and a trip.
Oklahoma will play at Globe Life Field again Wednesday night. The Sooners opposite UT Arlington at 19.30
