Baseball: Canada advances to Olympic qualifying round

Canada advanced to the Super Round of the Tokyo Olympics Qualifying Tournament in the America Zone.

To do so, the Maple Leaf (2-0 record in Group B) defeated Cuba with a score of 6-5 in the penultimate round.

In the win, Ryan Kellogg of the Chicago Cubs allowed five hits, but allowed no runs in three and two-thirds of rounds. Michael Crouse has beaten home driving.

Canada will now face Venezuela in hopes of finishing first in their group and approaching the final goal.

The top two teams in each group reach the next stage of the competition, and the United States is also part of that with Canada.

Then each club will play two more super-round matches, and the cumulative records will determine the big winner.

The winner of the Americas Zone Tournament will be world No. 1 in Japan, as well as Korea (No. 3), Mexico (No. 5) and Israel (No. 18) at the upcoming Summer Games.

The second and third national elections will have a chance to resume in another qualifying tournament (finally qualify) involving Taiwan, the Netherlands and Australia.
