WHO IS ON FIRE: Senior right-handed jar Michael Johnson threw a hitter through seven innings with seven strikers in his first start of the year. Conflicting hits hit .048 against him this year. In two appearances and 3.0 rounds, senior closer Evan Porter has three strikes and one rescue while surrendering just one hit. Junior outdoor player Justin rodriguez hits a team-high .333 this year and beat the battle-winning home race against the College of Charleston in Game 1 last Sunday.

AGGIE OVERVIEW: North Carolina A&T is destined to take on the App State Mountaineers in a home-and-home weekend series. The two teams play a double-headed Saturday dinner at Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone, followed by a Sunday afternoon game at War Memorial Stadium in Greensboro. The Aggies come off a tough midweek loss to Liberty, 16-2, Wednesday afternoon at Liberty’s Baseball Field in Lynchburg, Va. The Aggies have struggled to hit the ball early in the year with a team stroke average of .250 and 30 strokes left on base. Head coaches and sports information managers selected A&T to win the Southern Division in the MEAC season poll. Hall, who is entering his seventh season, is 120-163 overall in Aggieland.

MOUNTAIN OVERVIEW: The Mountaineers are 3-1 this season after taking two of three games against Winthrop in a season-opening weekend series and beating ETSU in their first midweek game of the year. In Sun Belt’s 2021 season poll, App State was estimated to be number five in the Eastern Division and received 21 votes. Second baseman Luke Drumheller was named an All-Sun Belt selection for the second season. He beats .267 to 15 bats with a double, a home run and three RBIs. Junior outfielder Phillip Cole leads the team with his 0.447 stroke average and seven hits. He also has home runs and four RBIs at team height with 10 bases in total. Senior southpaw Quinton Martinez was named Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week after going 1-0 with 7.0 innings, and allowed no runs on three hits with four strikes. Skipper Kermit Smith is in his fifth season in App State and has a record of 73-110 at the helm of the program.
