The Centenary lost two of three home games against the Texas Lutheran last weekend to end the regular season. The men fell in a double header on Saturday, 14-4 and 8-4, after taking the series opener, 5-4, Friday night. Saturday’s setback was the first at home all season for Maroon and White when they finished a superb 17-2 at Shehee Stadium this season. Despite being number 4 in the tournament, the men led the conference in overall victories, and only TLU has won several conference games.
The men won 30 games in one season for only the second time in the Division III era (2012-now) and 10th time in school history. They also set a D3-era single-season record for home wins (17) and won their first 16 at Shehee Stadium. They swept five opponents at home this season and are 20-3 in their last 23 home games since the beginning of last season. Maroon and White are 39-13 (20-3 at home / 15-9 away / 4-1 neutral) in total since the start of the shortened season 2020. Centenary has now reached two figures in conference victories each season, but one since joining by SCAC before the 2013 season (conference games that were not played last season due to COVID-19).
Centenary is ranked for the eighth week in a row in the poll D3baseball.com/NCBWA, has been ranked as high as 14th in the poll this season. See the full poll here: https://www.d3baseball.com/top25/2021/2021Top25-week-11
Centenary also won a record-breaking 18-straight game from March 4 to April 6, when Maroon and White went undefeated for six consecutive weeks, owning the longest division in the country in Division III. The men are just five wins away from matching the D3 era with a 1-season program record of 35 games achieved by the 2017 team that won the SCAC Championship and won an NCAA tournament spot. The men ended the regular season with single-digit losses for the second time since 1967 (2017 the second occasion).
