FRENSHIP 7

The Lee baseball team erased an early deficit by scoring 10 unanswered runs in a crucial District 2-6A victory over Wolfforth Frenship on Tuesday night at Ernie Johnson Field.

The Rebels (12-3, 3-0 in the district) had 14 hits on the day, led by Hayden Westenburg, who was 3-for-4 with home runs, four RBIs and two goals. Luis Cordero was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored; Michael Weidner was 2-for-4 with home runs, doubles, walk, RBI and three runs scored; and Chase Shores were 2-for-3 with an RBI and ran the score.

Weidner got the win on the mound, while Jace Martinez picked up the rescue.

“Every time you can start the season with a win, especially with a ball club like Frenship, it’s a quality win,” said Lee coach Brian Roper. “We had a tough start and our boys did not panic. We managed to get out and set up a big round, and when they came out with a big round, we could answer. It was a good team win. We swung out bats and did what we needed to get a win to start the series. ”

The teams meet in the second game of the three-game series at 6 pm on Friday at Frenship.
