Baseball is experiencing a unique mania in Alma. At least 180 players have already been registered for this summer.

Alma-minor baseball president Nicolas Dufour says it has been unheard of for at least 14 years. The organization will be able to form teams in all categories, from the smallest to the oldest.

He even hopes to have three completely female teams this year. All it takes is a few registrations of teens between the ages of 10 and 13 to get there.

If we manage that, at the regional level, we might have a strictly female league. Me, I’ve never seen it. This is what we are aiming for.

Nicolas Dufour believes that this baseball man is partly due to the fact that people in the region travel less due to the pandemic and take more advantage of the activities offered near their homes.

He also observes that the little ones will follow in the footsteps of their big brothers or big sisters by trying this sport, which makes it possible to swell out the ranks.

The challenge now is to find enough coaches and referees to keep all the matches on the schedule going.
