Houston Astros fans will have the opportunity to meet with players and alumni when the 2013 Houston Astros CAREavan hits the road on January 21. The 14-city tour will include over 30 public and private stops throughout central and south Texas, Oklahoma City and parts of Houston.
The tour will connect the team with its fan base as part of the CAREavan and includes Astros players and alumni appearing at Academy Sports + Outdoors locations, which are hosting free autograph sessions throughout the five-day tour. In addition to the public appearances, several CAREavan stops will center on the club’s main community focus areas: supporting cancer-related causes, organizations that support the military, and youth baseball and softball programs.
The team’s annual winter travels will consist of five days in the Houston area (Jan. 21-25) and two-day trips to Brownsville, Harlingen and McAllen (Jan. 22 – 23), and to Austin and San Antonio (Jan. 24 – 25). The team will also travel to two of the club’s minor league cities, making stops in Corpus Christi (Jan. 24) and Oklahoma City (Jan. 25).
Current players scheduled to be on the tour include Astros manager Bo Porter, Jose Altuve, Jason Castro, Carlos Corporan, Jarred Cosart, Tyler Greene, Lucas Harrell, Jed Lowrie, Jordan Lyles, Justin Maxwell, J.D. Martinez, Bud Norris, Brett Wallace and Wesley Wright, along with former players Brandon Backe, Jose Cruz, Larry Dierker, Art Howe, J.R. Richard, Shane Reynolds and Jimmy Wynn.
To cap off the week-long CAREavan, Astros FanFest will be held at Minute Maid Park on Saturday, January 26 and include a winter baseball festival.
