The Arizona Diamondbacks have announced that 48 lower-level full season tickets will be awarded to 17 families experiencing financial hardships as part of the Michael Wogan D-backs Season Ticket Scholarship program. Created in 2008, this program is the first-of-its-kind in all of sports.
“The most rewarding part of this program is getting to make the phone calls to these families and surprise them with this gift during the holiday season,” said D-backs President & CEO Derrick Hall, who came up with the concept for the program five years ago. “We are all truly grateful for the support these families give us during the season and we’re proud to support and assist them during their time of need.”
In the five years the program has been established, the D-backs have provided more than 300 full season tickets for a value of more than $600,000 to families in need. The program provides lower level seating at D-backs games at Chase Field and parking passes and food concession coupons to families with additional hardships.
Families are asked to apply via dbacks.com telling their story. Previous scholarship winners have since improved their financial situation and have purchased their own tickets to attend D-backs games at Chase Field.
In 2011, the D-backs announced that the Season Ticket scholarship program would honor the legacy of Wogan, a past recipient of the scholarship, who lost his life in the Reno air show tragedy on Sept. 16, 2011.
