Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson knows how to get fans on their feet at Reliant Stadium. It’s simple – go deep, catch a pass and score a touchdown… and lots of ‘em. Today, Johnson scored a touchdown for 12 special children and they cheered like never before.
Johnson hosted his annual holiday shopping spree at Toys “R” Us. The children selected by Child Protective Services were given 80 seconds to fill bins provided to them with anything they wanted. They were also guaranteed an entertainment system with a choice of two video games. All of this was courtesy of the Andre Johnson Charitable Foundation.
The wide receiver was overwhelmed with the work a child can do, “You hear a minute and twenty seconds and you don’t think that’s a long time, but you’d be surprised by what these kids can put into their buckets,” Johnson said. By the time the festivities ended, Johnson cheerfully spent $19,521.
Of all the events Johnson’s foundation hosts during the year, Christmas is a the most wonderful time of the year for children,
which Johnson is well aware. ”I think it’s probably the best one because you get to see the kids really enjoy it,” Johnson said. “That’s what this season is about. It’s something I look forward to. The kids are happy, they get what they want for Christmas, and that’s all that matters.”
Johnson would love nothing more than to get a Christmas present of his own, a Super Bowl Championship. The Good in Sports wishes him and the Texans the best of luck. We also thank him for making dreams come true for 12 deserving children.
