(Via Glazer Family Foundation) – Tampa, FL. (August 3, 2012) - On Monday, August 6, the Glazer Family Foundation will continue a tradition of supporting students at the start of the school year by distributing 5,000 backpacks to children at Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp. From 9:30 – 10:30 a.m., Glazer Family Foundation staff and volunteers will distribute backpacks to more than 70 local nonprofit organizations and community groups for its annual “Buc-Packs for Back-to-School” program. Tampa Bay Buccaneers mascot Captain Fear will also greet each youth group and organization in the front parking lot at the Buccaneers’ training facility before the children participate in football drills following practice.
This year, the “Buc-Packs for Back-to-School” program increased its donation to 5,000 backpacks, 1,500 more than last year. Over the past 12 years, the initiative has provided more than 25,000 backpacks to local children.
The Glazer family, who own the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, established the Foundation in 1999. Since that time, the Glazer Family Foundation has given millions of dollars in programs, grants, tickets and merchandise to the Tampa Bay area. Most recently, the Foundation donated $5 million toward the construction of a new children’s museum in downtown Tampa, which opened on September 25, 2010 and is named the Glazer Children’s Museum.
