May 27-June 2, 2012

1st Gold Star: Detroit Tigers

A couple of Tigers players signed autographs in exchange for new or gently used baseball and softball equipment at ABC Warehouse in Macomb Township for the Gloves for Kids program. Gloves for Kids is a program designed to provide Detroit’s youth the sporting equipment necessary to participate in organized baseball and softball.  During select dates in June, July, and August, Detroit Tigers players make appearances along with representatives from WXYT and WWJ AM and FM (CBS Radio) at various Metro Detroit ABC Warehouse locations.  During each visit, a Tigers player signs autographs in exchange for donations of new or gently used baseball and softball equipment such as gloves, cleats, bats, balls, shin guards, etc.  Monetary donations also are accepted. CBS Radio stations and the Tigers will be collecting equipment at Comerica Park on September 22. Way to go, Detroit!

2nd Gold Star: Cleveland Indians

Cleveland Indians Charities (CIC) hosted the 21st annual Celebrity Golf Classic at Quail Hollow Country Club in Concord, OH.  Presented by Medical Mutual with the support of SportsTime Ohio, the annual event brings together current members of the Cleveland Indians, MLB Alumni, other MLB/NFL/NBA alumni, media personalities and fans for a day of golf to benefit the numerous youth education and recreation programs supported by Cleveland Indians Charities. Since its inception, CIC has donated more than $9 MILLION to youth-oriented agencies and organizations throughout Northeast Ohio. Keep it up, Indians!

3rd Gold Star: Calgary Flames

This year marks the 18th Annual Masters Golf Tournament, the Calgary Flames Alumni Association’s annual charity golf tournament. The tournament surpassed the $2 million raised last year with all the proceeds raised benefiting Calgary and Area Charities.  Lat year’s tournament raised over $150,000 for Impact Society. Great cause, great work!
