1st Gold Star: Memphis Grizzlies

Memphis Grizzlies forward Rudy Gay was the recipient of the Kia Community Assist Award for April in recognition of his outstanding efforts in the community and his ongoing philanthropic and charitable work. Kia and the NBA honored Gay in part for his ongoing support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. Gay, who wears number 22, made a personal donation of $22,222.22 to the hospital. Great job, Rudy!

2nd Gold Star: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

On Wednesday, May 9, students at Bay Point Middle School in St. Petersburg received an updated fitness trail, thousands of dollars in new physical education equipment, and a celebratory visit from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the American Heart Association for winning this year’s NFL Play 60 Challenge!

3rd Gold Star: Pittsburgh Pirates

Pirates Charities, the official philanthropic arm of the Pittsburgh Pirates, along with Pirates closer Joel Hanrahan and reliever Chris Resop hosted the seventh Bowling with the Bucs event at Legacy Lanes in Baldwin on May 6. The popular fan event offers fans the opportunity to bowl, and mingle with their favorite Pirates players and celebrities in a laid-back, casual atmosphere. All proceeds from the evening benefited
Pirates Charities and its mission to make a positive impact on the local communities.
