Did your team make a difference this week?
April 29-May 5 2012
1st Gold Star: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
On May 4, Tampa’s Gerald McCoy hosted a private screening of “The Avengers” for 400 pre-selected fans. The fans selected were also able to invite a friend of their choice, as well as enjoy some popcorn and drinks on McCoy. As if that wasn’t enough, they had the chance to take in a movie with McCoy and some of his teammates. How cool is that? In other news, when a player has no expectations of ever playing football again, the last thing he would expect is to be offered an NFL contract. But that is exactly what happened to former Rutgers defensive tackle Eric LeGrand, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced that they signed the paralyzed free agent to a contract. LeGrand was injured in a freak football accident while playing for Rutgers University on October 16, 2010 against Army, becoming paralyzed from the neck down. The Bucs get the 1st Gold Star this week, hands down. Great job.
2nd Gold Star: Orlando Magic
On April 30, the Magic awarded $36,000 in scholarships to local high school students. The scholarships are for high school seniors from Orange, Seminole or Osceola counties who plan on seeking a degree at Valencia College or Seminole State College in the fall. Proof that the Magic continue to support education in their community!
3rd Gold Star: Kansas City Royals
The Kansas City Royals partnered with the Baseball Tomorrow Fund and Rawlings on the 8th annual Baseball Equipment Drive on May 3rd and May 4th. The proceeds benefited the Alta Vista Charter School Baseball Program. Well done, Royals.
