Since 1987, Hartlepool United fans have had a tradition of dressing up for their final match of the season. In previous years, they’ve dressed up as characters such as Oompa Loompas and Where’s Waldo. This year, always trying to outdo themselves, they decided to go as Smurfs.
John Pearson who organized the trip stated, “We’ve been doing it on and off ever since 1987 when we went to Chorley. The last few years it’s really taken off with the younger lads getting involved and their mates coming along. It’s all a bit of good craic (fun) and helps the day along. It definitely makes it more enjoyable.”
The Good in Sports loves fun sports traditions. As such, we tip our hat to the near 200 Poolies who, no matter the outcome, made the effort and participated in an awesome and fun soccer tradition.

Awesome story Sam, got to love those crazy footie fans over in the UK!!!! Keep up the good work!!!
