April 8-14, 2012
1st Gold Star: Chicago Cubs
For the eighth consecutive season, Cubs Care and Chicago Cubs Charities teamed up with the Robert R. McCormick Foundation to give more than $1 million in grants to non-profit organizations serving those in need in the Chicago area. The 2012 grants were given to organizations that include the Chicago Park District, the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and the Chicago Public Library Foundation. The Cubs continue to prove that they are a top flight organization that sincerely cares about their community. Great job, Cubbies!
2nd Gold Star: Kansas City Royals
Friday the 13th had the Royals hosting their first 50/50 Friday. For every Friday home game, the Royals sell raffle tickets from the time the gates open, through the fourth inning. One winner is selected, winning half of the proceeds, with the other half split between Royals Charities and a local Kansas City charity. Big Brothers and Big Sisters were the benefactor for the first event.
3rd Gold Star: Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cleveland Cavaliers teamed up with Majestic Steel USA to provide four students with $2,000 scholarships. The winners were recognized at a pre-game banquet and pre-game ceremony on April 11th (vs Indiana Pacers). The scholarships are for those who intend to pursue a career in manufacturing, or are currently enrolled in manufacturing programs. Kudos to the Cavs for helping support educational pursuits!
