Magic, Flyers, Dodgers

Welcome to the first weekly installment of the TGiS Gold Stars program, modeled after the NHL Stars of the Game. Each week, we will post the first, second and third Gold Stars of the week. The stars will be done by team and any player that earns a star, earns it for the team he or she currently plays on. Easy enough? Great! So, without further adieu:

March 18-24, 2012

1st Gold Star: Orlando Magic

The Magic snag this week’s top spot for doing a number of things in the community. First off, on March 24, the Magic held the 22nd Annual Orlando Magic Youth Foundation Black Tie and Tennies Gala, raising $505,000 for the team’s charitable arm (OMYF). Additionally, Ryan Anderson and Glen Davis promoted literacy with a “storytime” for local youth from the Little Angels Child Care & Learning Center, while Dwight Howard and the Magic brought in a family, who are struggling with numerous health issues, for the VIP treatment. Great week for the Magic community!

2nd Gold Star: Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers and Michael’s Way renovated a bedroom for, Kahlil Lyles, a seven year old who is currently in remission from leukemia. The renovations included a special mural hand-painted by a member of the Flyers Wives, new walls, ceilings, windows, doors, paint, furniture, fixtures, electrical wiring and custom built-ins. What a great job, guys!

3rd Gold Star: Los Angeles Dodgers

The LA Dodgers grab the 3rd star as the Dodgers Dream Foundation unveiled a new Dodgers Dreamfield at the Harbor City Recreation Center in Los Angeles, providing more youngsters the opportunity to play the great game of baseball. Well done!
