The Calgary Flames are pros at making money off celebrity roasts. On March 7, 2012, over 500 people showed up to watch former player and current Special Assistant to the General Manager, Craig Conroy, get roasted. Conroy, who played in 1009 NHL games, was celebrated and roasted by Rhett Warrener, former teammate Derek Armstrong, as well as Jamie Macoun, who acted as the event’s emcee. As if that wasn’t enough, Conroy also received a number of video roasts including one from Flames players Jarome Iginla and Tom Kostopoulos.
All in all, the event raised over $225,000 for the Flames Foundation for Life and Missing Children of Canada. In the last 8 years, the Flames Ambassadors Celebrity Roast Gala has raised over 1 million dollars! Brings new meaning to laughing your way to the bank! Great Job, Flames!
